It is that time of the semester. The work load is pilling up, midterms are taking a toll and professors are trying to squeeze in the last minute assignments. Not to mention, all of this is being done through zoom and on our home computers. It is draining.
I think all students can agree that this semester has been different; one for the books. Some are thriving and some are striving. It is important to be on top of our academics, but just as importantly be on top of ourselves and taking care of ourselves. Busy weeks at school are tiresome but we all endure the perseverance to get through it, somehow.
Over my past three years here at Penn State , from the beginning I even made it a mission to make sure I learn how to “do college the right way”. As mentors say, do not procrastinate or make sure you start your work early. Now while all of this is beneficial reminders, real life gets in the way.
I feel like it would be important to share how I have made it this far, and my perspective of “how to do college the right way”
Use a planner! – you will have a much less stressful week/month if you already know what’s coming your way
Try to get a head start on work- if possible!
Reminder to take breaks througout the day- you do not need to be working 24/7, you will still complete your tasks
Listen to your mind and body!- if you are tired/ drained, take a break, go to sleep. It is better to go to bed early and wake up early than the opposite
Remember to have fun!- You are in college, it is okay to hang out with your friends, take a breather and enjoy yourself
These are a few tips I have clustered together and lived by for these past three years. It is important to not be so hard on yourself and remember you are more than just a student. Enjoy life, don’t let it pass you by!
